About the Role:
Do you have a passion for agriculture and empowering rural communities? Oxfam is seeking a dedicated Agribusiness Project Officer to lead our Poultry, Piggery, and Solar Irrigation initiatives under the DANIDA SP II project in West Nile, Uganda.
This is a hands-on role where you’ll work directly with farmers, local partners, and stakeholders to improve livelihoods, strengthen agribusiness value chains, and promote sustainable farming practices. If you’re a problem-solver with experience in livestock production and rural development, we’d love to hear from you!
What You’ll Do:
Project Leadership
- Oversee daily operations of poultry, piggery, and solar irrigation projects, ensuring activities align with goals and budgets.
- Monitor progress, troubleshoot challenges, and adapt strategies for maximum impact.
Farmer Training & Capacity Building
- Train farmers in animal husbandry, disease control, feed production, and marketing.
- Facilitate workshops, demos, and peer-learning sessions to share best practices.
- Support women’s agribusiness incubators to boost gender-inclusive growth.
Monitoring & Evaluation
- Track key metrics (production yields, income gains, farmer satisfaction).
- Analyze data, report on outcomes, and recommend improvements.
Market Access & Value Chains
- Connect farmers to buyers for poultry, pigs, cassava, maize, and sweet potatoes.
- Advocate for fair pricing and explore financing opportunities with local banks.
Budget & Reporting
- Manage project funds transparently and submit timely financial reports.
- Document activities, successes, and lessons learned.
Who We’re Looking For:
✔ Education: Bachelor’s in Agriculture, Animal Science, Agribusiness, or related field.
✔ Experience: 2–5 years in livestock projects, agribusiness, or NGO work (poultry/piggery expertise is a plus!).
✔ Skills:
- Strong training/facilitation abilities.
- Knowledge of eco-friendly farming and income-generating activities.
- Excellent communication (written & spoken) and teamwork.
- Proficiency in data analysis and Microsoft Office.
- ✔ Mindset: Self-driven, adaptable, and committed to gender equality.
